I explore my visceral reaction to Francisco de Goya’s Black Paintings and my desire to instill similar reactions in the viewers of my own works, particularly in this most recent body of charcoal drawings, Fowl Follies. Over the past 6 years, I have traveled to Madrid more than a handful of times to examine and study the works by Goya, each time returning to my studio on Long Island with a new understanding of his use of composition and light, and a new desire to translate my reactions onto paper.
